Restocking in Portland, Maine

Priority had  a good trip up the coast from the Isles to head into Portland, Maine.  The Portland Head Lighthouse stood tall as we passed and lots of folks were enjoying the park area around it on an overcast Tuesday.

Portland is slowly getting their downtown harbor renovated like Baltimore but is still fairly sleepy.  Fort Gorges stands as an island to protect the harbor and you can see the tour boats and recreational boats keep the water busy as well as ship traffic.

We docked at the Maine Yacht Center just in time for the fog to roll over the area.   We did the usual shore chores that need to be done when we hit land - laundry, find a market for fresh veggies, fill water tanks, top off the diesel fuel, exchange books at the marina book swap, get long...hot showers and explore the area.  The marina had a courtesy truck we could borrow so we did visit downtown on our way to find a grocery store.

Our boat neighbors at the dock (green hulled motorboat) live on Great Diamond Island across the harbor.  They keep their car here at the marina and dock their "commuter" boat here at the marina to run back and forth to work in Portland from their home on the island. They arrive each morning about 7:45AM and depart for home about 5PM - their normal routine. It is interesting to see how others work things out. It has been foggy and rainy since the night we arrived and I hear rain on the canvas top now as we are getting ready to depart.  We plan to head out into the Casco Bay to find a good anchorage spot for the night.
